Commissioning Engineer – Gas Insulated Switchgear
About the Role
As a Commissioning Engineer, Gas Insulated Switchgear, you will play a critical role in bolstering the UK’s energy network. In this position, you will ensure the safe, timely testing and commissioning of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS)—critical to delivering reliable energy solutions.
After completing a comprehensive training program, you will take ownership of projects, ensuring customer satisfaction and exceptional results while aligning with Hitachi Energy’s world-class standards.

How You’ll Make an Impact
- Coordinate and execute on-site testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting, ensuring functionality and measurements comply with specifications
- Utilise your expertise in GIS to make informed technical decisions
- Collaborate proactively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver projects safely and successfully
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations while implementing rigorous quality assurance measures to minimise project risks
- Build strong customer relationships, explore new business opportunities, and maintain a high level of satisfaction
- Prepare field-related reports, protocols, and updates on site progress
- Uphold Hitachi Energy’s core values (safety, integrity, and responsibility) to drive success

Your Background
- BSc/BEng in Electrical Engineering or equivalent HNC with demonstrable experience
- Experience in testing and commissioning Medium Voltage (MV) / High Voltage (HV) switchgear and use of associated equipment
- Preference given to candidates with certification in GIS commissioning (technical training provided)
- Strong analytical and proactive problem-solving skills for handling project challenges
- Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring reliable and safe switchgear handover
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage at all levels
- Valid UK Driving License required
