Commissioning Engineer – Environment
Locaton: Bodmin
What You Will Be Doing
This Commissioning Engineer role presents an opportunity to join Galliford Try’s team in Bodmin, with opportunities to travel across sites and projects in the South West Region.
Primary Purpose of the Role: Your primary responsibilities will revolve around the planning, execution, and documentation of commissioning activities on South West Water projects and works programmes, ensuring compliance with **Client and Galliford Try (GT) frameworks, processes, systems, and procedures.
Reporting Structures: This role fits into a matrix management arrangement, reporting to:
- The Project Manager for planning, progress, safety, and quality
- The Commissioning Manager for project allocation, governance, and training needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop the Design Phase Commissioning Plan collaboratively with the Client’s commissioning representatives, culminating in the Delivery Phase Commissioning Plan. Ensure it is supplemented by Risk Assessments and Commissioning Procedures.
- Lead and document periodic commissioning meetings, with a HAZCOMM review at the start of each project’s commissioning phase.
- Coordinate site commissioning activities to ensure project requirements and timelines are met, working with the Site Manager as needed.
- Maintain up-to-date commissioning documentation on the Common Data Environment, verifying that testing requirements are fulfilled.
- Agree and deliver the training plan with the Client, ensuring delivery aligns with the project’s programme requirements, including coordinating specifically commissioned training and feedback sessions.
- Mark up drawings and amended documents during commissioning, updating the Common Data Environment for finalized project versions.
- Lead the reliability and performance testing phase, including the production of a report detailing compliance with Client objectives.
- Assist the Project Manager in resolving post-completion defects.
About You
Essential Experience and Skills:
- Proven experience in the safe and successful commissioning of complex projects within the water industry, preferably in a contracting environment.
- Strong financial and commercial awareness to analyze changes and assess their impact on projects.
- Outstanding communication skills to engage effectively with Client and project teams, ensuring successful project delivery.
- A structured systematic approach to tackling complex problems and documenting actions and outcomes.
- Proficiency in generating concise reports for commissioning deliverables.
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams to achieve project targets and deadlines.

Specific Technical Knowledge:
- Excellent working knowledge and understanding of:
- Sewage and water treatment processes, systems
- Typical mechanical & electrical (M&E) plant and equipment
- Strong grasp of structured commissioning processes and quality management systems, emphasizing accurate and clear record-keeping.
- Experience in safety management systems, including behaviour-bases approaches, preferably with the ability to:
- Issue and manage safety documents to control risk effectively on behalf of the company.
Qualifications
Essential:
- CSCS or ECS card (possessing an appropriate discipline)
- EUSR Water Hygiene Card
- CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)
- First Aid at Work certification
- Confined Spaces Entry (Medium Risk) qualification
Desirable:
- Requirements for Electrical Installations (C&G 2382)
- CompEx ExF/DSEAR Awareness
- Certified PROFIBUS Installer
- PROFIBUS Commissioning and Maintenance
