Commodity Buyer (Meat & Protein)

Location: Fulcrum Business Centre, Vantage Way, Poole, BH12 4NU Salary: £40,000–£60,000 per annum (DOE) + Performance Bonus Hours: Monday to Friday | 8:30am–5:00pm

With annual turnover exceeding £120 million and a well-established UK and international supplier network, we're continuing to invest in our commercial team as the business grows.

The Role

We're looking for an experienced Commodity Buyer to manage the purchasing and trading of meat and protein products across UK and international markets.

This is a commercially focused buying role where you'll be responsible for identifying market opportunities, negotiating supplier agreements, managing commodity risk and delivering profitable buying decisions.

Working closely with our Commercial, Sales and Operations teams, you'll play a key role in ensuring product availability while maximising margin and supporting business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Buy and trade beef, pork, poultry and lamb across UK and international markets.
  • Monitor commodity markets, pricing trends and supply risks.
  • Negotiate prices, contracts, rebates and supplier agreements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and processors.
  • Source new products and suppliers to improve competitiveness.
  • Manage stock purchasing to balance availability and profitability.
  • Work closely with Sales and Operations to support customer demand.
  • Identify opportunities to improve margin and commercial performance.
  • Contribute to buying strategy and category development.

About You

We're looking for someone with experience in commodity buying, protein procurement or meat trading who enjoys working in a fast-paced commercial environment.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Commodity Buyer, Meat Buyer, Protein Buyer or Procurement Buyer.
  • Experience buying within food manufacturing, wholesale, retail or FMCG.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
  • Knowledge of commodity markets and pricing.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to identify opportunities and manage risk.
  • Confidence making buying decisions in a dynamic market.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Experience buying meat or protein products would be highly advantageous, although applicants with relevant commodity buying experience from the wider food industry will also be considered.
