Communications Assistant
Police Staff – Corporate Communications Officer
Permanent Full-Time | Scale 3/4 | £25,242–£37,547 per annum | Headquarters, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire
In the fast-paced world of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, no two days are alike—whether you’re helping challenge criminals through public engagement campaigns, raising awareness in local communities, or developing clever solutions to prevent harm. This role would suit a communications specialist with robust digital and interpersonal skills to drive meaningful change in policing.
As part of the Corporate Communications team, you’ll collaborate closely with the Senior Communications Officer for South Cambridgeshire, covering key areas including:
- Huntingdon, Cambridge, Ely, and South Cambridgeshire
- Media relations and local community engagement
- Campaign planning and social media strategy
- Crime prevention advice and public safety initiatives
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted communications that support local policing priorities, address emerging community issues, and foster public trust in the force.
- Create engaging, accessible content for digital and print media, ensuring clarity and accuracy in communications about crime prevention and public safety.
- Collaborate with stakeholders—from police officers to BBC_PH_connection—taking ownership of social media, campaigns, and collaborations that drive real impact.
- Network across Churchh Cambridge comp Baselines visibility and reinforce the Constabulary’s presence in local communities.

Essential Requirements
- At least 12 months of communications experience, ideally in a public/safety, campaign, or media role.
- Proven ability to write concisely and clearly (e.g., press statements, social media posts, or campaign briefs).
- Strong digital communication skills, including managing social media platforms and creating content for different audiences.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of articulating complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
- Administrative expertise and organisational skills to juggle competing priorities efficiently.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop/InDesign for design work.
- Full, clean driving licence (travel is usually required).
- Awareness of, or prior involvement in, public protection/force communications.
