Communications Assistant
Police Staff – Corporate Communications Officer (Scale 3/4)
Permanent Full-Time Base: Corporate Communications Headquarters, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire Salary: £25,242 per annum (37-hour week)
About the Role
Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s Corporate Communications team offers a dynamic role where no two days are the same. From murder investigations to burglary crime prevention campaigns, you’ll gain fascinating insights into policing and play a crucial role in protecting vulnerable individuals and reducing criminality.
This highly varied position is perfect for a communications specialist looking for a challenging and engaging role. You’ll be involved in:
- Social media relations with the public
- Campaign planning and execution
- Media liaison and public engagement
- Internal communications
The successful applicant will support the Senior Communications Officer (South Cambridgeshire), covering Huntingdon, Cambridge, Ely, and South Cambridgeshire. Your duties will include:
- Delivering targeted communications and engagement to local communities.
- Consulting with the public on force priorities and forming communication solutions for emerging issues.
- Increasing force visibility through strategic engagement.
- Promoting crime prevention initiatives and helping the public reduce risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and execute public-facing campaigns, ensuring they align with policing priorities.
- Maintain strong digital media presence (social media, web updates, press releases).
- Provide media liaison to local, regional, and national outlets.
- Develop and distribute internal communications to officers and staff.
- Support crime prevention efforts through public awareness campaigns.
- Work closely with local policing teams to ensure messaging stays relevant.
- Collaborate with the Senior Communications Officer on large-scale projects.
- Deliver engagement activities with local communities, fostering trust and transparency.

Requirements
Essential Criteria
- At least 12 months’ experience in communications (digital or otherwise).
- Strong writing skills – concise, error-free English with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, able to interact effectively at all levels.
- Proven digital media and social media experience.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Solid administrative skills, with a methodical approach to task management and deadlines.
- Two A-levels (or equivalent qualifications).
Desirable Criteria
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign for design-related tasks.
- Current full, clean driving licence.
- Military Vetting (MV) clearance (if applicable).
- Previous experience in public sector communications or policing.
