Job Description

Suffolk County Council
Address: West Suffolk House, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk IP33 3YU or Endeavour House, Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 2BX, hybrid working
Salary: £28,598 per annum (pro rata for part time)
Hours: 37 hours per week, flexible working options available
Contract: Fixed term or secondment to 31/03/2028 (funding)

Your Role And Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this post is to:

  • deliver digital communications for a range of sustainability projects across Suffolk such as social media content, email marketing and website content
  • support the Senior Communications Officer with the delivery of a county-wide behaviour change campaign
  • lead on delivery of our communications strategy, growing our channels so that we can reach and engage with more people across Suffolk.

You will need

  • experience delivering digital communications across multiple channels designed to empower and encourage action at a county/regional scale
  • excellent copywriting skills and creative ideas, be able to work independently and as part of a team and be self-motivated. We deliver communications for many different projects so you will need to be highly organised and able to prioritise work effectively.

Our ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of environmental sustainability communication.

The team

The Communications Assistant role sits within Sustainable Suffolk – a partnership of all of Suffolk’s public sector organisations - and reports to the Senior Communications Officer. The role is hosted at Suffolk County Council on behalf of the partnership. The Sustainable Suffolk team is a dynamic group of professionals focused on delivering projects that help people, businesses, schools and communities become more sustainable.   • Can you tell us about a time when you delivered an external digital communications campaign across multiple channels? What was your approach, and how did you measure its success?
  • Describe a time when you had to manage several projects or tasks with competing deadlines. How did you prioritise and ensure everything was delivered on time?
  • Tell us about your experience of using digital tools such as Mailchimp, social media scheduling platforms, Canva, websites or analytics tools to support communications activity.

Step 4 – Upload a word document/pdf of the completed task. You can find details and instructions for the application task below:

Brief:

“Create a mini communications campaign to encourage Suffolk residents to take one simple climate action (e.g. reducing food waste, using public transport, saving energy).”

Output:

  • 3x social media posts for the Sustainable Suffolk social media channels (please include either the completed graphics/videos/photos or the descriptions of the visual elements for each post. Also include a caption for each post)
  • 1x short email newsletter section for the Sustainable Suffolk newsletter (no more than 200 words)
  • 1x title plus intro for a blog for the Sustainable Suffolk website
