Communications & Engagement Officer

Contract/Job Type: Contract (12-month maternity cover, starting mid-September 2026, 21 hours per week, part-time)

Location: Remote Salary: £15,600 (equivalent to £26,000 full-time equivalent) Closing Date: Wednesday 15 July 2026

Interview Dates: Week beginning 11 May 2026

Role Context

NCT, the National Childbirth Trust, is the UK’s charity for pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. For nearly 70 years, we’ve provided trusted information, practical support, and built communities to empower parents. Our work includes:

  • Award-winning antenatal classes
  • Parenting campaign activities
  • Infant feeding support
  • Thousands of free community events and activities (led by volunteers)
  • Challenges such as:
    • Social isolation
    • Feeding difficulties
    • Mental health concerns

We operate in schools, hospitals, and online to support diverse families through their journeys. Last year, we reached 250,000 parents across pregnancy, birth, infant feeding, and early parenting.

Role Purpose

The Communications & Engagement Officer will plan and deliver engaging internal communications to keep staff, volunteers, and practitioners informed, connected, and engaged.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Sharing key organisational updates
  • Supporting major activities
  • Storytelling and case studies to highlight NCT’s impact
  • Building strong cross-stakeholder relationships
  • Prioritising competing demands
  • Clarifying complex information for diverse audiences

Responsibilities

Core Tasks:

  • Plan and coordinate internal communications campaigns, events, and updates for staff, volunteers, and partners
  • Develop engaging written content (emails, newsletters, reports, presentations) to support diverse organisational objectives
  • Maintain strong relationships with colleagues across NCT, including senior leadership
  • Edit and proof materials to ensure clarity, tone, and correctness for different audiences
  • Present complex information in accessible ways (visuals, summaries, workshops)
  • Collaborate with colleagues on content projects, campaigns, and public-facing materials
  • Ensure NCT’s brand standards are consistently applied

About Your Experience

We are seeking someone with:

  • Solid experience in supporting communications, engagement, or marketing roles
  • Strong copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills ( tailoring content for varied audiences and channels)
  • Campaign/project leadership—experience coordinating work with multiple stakeholders
  • Exceptional organisational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality
  • Effective verbal skills with confidence communicating across organisational levels
