Community Advisor – Advice Line Team
Location: Flexible / Home Working, with elements of travel for community outreach across Scotland Opening: Open to candidates living anywhere in Scotland (Alloa listing ignored)

About the Role
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of autistic people and their families?
Scottish Autism is seeking a motivated Community Advisor to join our Community Advice Line Team. You’ll work closely with the Senior Community Advisor to deliver free, accessible, and needs-led services across Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
You will primarily lead the Advice Line, a critical service handling thousands of enquiries annually. This service shapes the development of broader supports such as:
- Get Set 4 Autism
- Click and Connect
Daily tasks include:
- Providing autism-specific information, advice, and guidance
- Actively listening to lived experiences
- Assisting families, autistic individuals, and professionals in navigating support pathways
The role blends home working with limited travel for community engagement and commissioned service delivery. Due to fluctuating demand, evening/weekend availability may be required.

Core Functions
- Deliver advice, support, and guidance via the advice line to autistic people, families, and professionals
- Refer clients to free community advice services and events
- Promote autism awareness among parents, carers, and broader communities
- Identify gaps in support to inform future services
- Assist in launching and embedding new community projects
About You
Key Requirements
Scottish Autism is seeking candidates with:
- Lived experience and/or professional practice in the autism field
- Contemporary knowledge of autism across the lifespan (e.g., education, care, advocacy)
- Experience supporting complex situations (e.g., heightened distress, confusion)
- Strong active listening skills with empathy and intuition
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, practical advice
- Capacity to adapt support styles for diverse audiences (e.g., autistic adults, parents, professionals)
- Self-management skills for varied workstreams
- Broad understanding of Scottish education, health, and social care systems for autistic individuals
