Full Job Description:

Are you passionate about bringing people together and making a real difference in your local community? Join our hospice team as a Community & Events Fundraiser and help raise vital funds that enable us to provide outstanding care and support to patients and their families.

We are looking for someone with experience in fundraising, events, sales, marketing, customer service, and community engagement. Key qualities we are seeking include:

  • An excellent communicator with strong relationship-building skills.
  • Enthusiastic, organised and self-motivated.
  • Enjoys working with people and inspiring others to get involved.
  • Can manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Has a flexible approach, including evening and weekend work.

37.5 hours per week to be worked flexibly in accordance with the needs of the service which may include weekends, bank holidays and evenings to support events.


Purpose of the Role:

To support the Fundraising Department in maximising income and delivering a high-quality community and events fundraising programme. The role involves building and maintaining relationships with community groups, organisations and individuals who wish to support the charity through community fundraising initiatives and mass participation events. Working with our Hampshire-based team, the role will support the implementation of our Fundraising Strategy with a focus on growing the range of activities and expanding our reach across Southampton and large parts of Hampshire. Responsibilities include supporting and developing existing fundraising income streams, identifying and implementing new fundraising opportunities, and leading the research, planning and delivery of a diverse events portfolio. The postholder will oversee the end-to-end management of fundraising events, ensuring they are engaging, well-executed and contribute to sustainable income growth, while also providing support for community-led fundraising activities and helping to deliver excellent supporter experiences.


Essential Qualifications:

  • High standard of general education to A-Level / level 3 or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant accredited fundraising, event management or marketing qualification (or willingness to work towards within agreed time period).

Key Tasks:

Working under the direction of the Community Lead the role will support the delivery and future development of the community and events fundraising programme. Key tasks include:

  1. Develop and manage relationships with community supporters

    • Build and maintain positive relationships with individuals, community groups, schools, clubs, faith groups and local organisations to encourage ongoing fundraising support.
  2. Support community fundraising activities

    • Provide advice, resources and guidance to supporters organising their own fundraising events, ensuring they have an excellent experience and maximise income generation, alongside promoting the work of Mountbatten and how donations will support the delivery of services for the benefit of local people.
  3. Plan and deliver fundraising events

    • Lead the research, planning, organisation and delivery of a portfolio of Mountbatten-led fundraising events, alongside community-led events, ensuring they are engaging, safe, well-managed and financially successful.
  4. Recruit and steward event participants

    • Promote participation in challenge events and fundraising events, providing tailored stewardship and motivation throughout the supporter journey.
  5. Identify and develop new fundraising opportunities

    • Research emerging trends, opportunities and partnerships to introduce innovative fundraising initiatives that contribute to sustainable income growth.
  6. Manage event budgets and financial reporting

    • Prepare and monitor event budgets, track income and expenditure, and produce accurate financial reports to ensure fundraising activities achieve agreed targets.
  7. Coordinate event logistics for Mountbatten-led events

    • Oversee venue bookings, supplier management, risk assessments, volunteer deployment and event-day operations to ensure successful event delivery.
  8. Monitor and evaluate fundraising performance

    • Analyse fundraising results, participant feedback and key performance indicators, producing recommendations for future improvements and growth.

  1. Create supporter communications

    • Develop engaging communications and marketing, fundraising materials and supporter updates across digital and traditional channels to encourage participation and donor retention.
  2. Work collaboratively with internal teams

    • Liaise with communications, retail, finance, operations and service delivery teams to ensure integrated and effective fundraising activities and events.
  3. Maintain accurate supporter records

    • Record and update fundraising activity, supporter interactions and donations on the charity CRM system, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
  4. Recruit, train and support volunteers

    • Identify volunteer requirements for fundraising events, provide training and supervision, and recognise volunteer contributions to encourage ongoing engagement.
  5. Additional Strategic Responsibilities

    • Achieve agreed fundraising income and participation targets.
    • Support the cross-selling and marketing of Mountbatten fundraising products at events (for example, regular giving, lottery, future events etc.).
    • Ensure all fundraising activities comply with charity law, fundraising regulations, health and safety requirements and organisational policies.
    • Represent the charity at community events, networking opportunities and stakeholder meetings to raise awareness of Mountbatten’s work and develop fundraising relationships.
    • Support through community fundraising activity Mountbatten’s wider community engagement plans, helping to ensure local people are aware of Mountbatten’s services and the importance of community fundraising to maintain services.
    • Development of the community fundraising and events programme to maximise income and align with the fundraising strategy through research, effective and constructive feedback and preparing evaluative reports.
    • Attending and supervising events (on and off-site), as required.
