About the role
Help shape how communities benefit from one of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes.
As National Grid delivers The Great Grid Upgrade – the largest overhaul of the electricity network in generations – we're creating more than new infrastructure. We're creating opportunities, supporting communities and helping to deliver a cleaner, more secure energy future for the UK.
We're looking for a Community Benefits Advisor to help ensure the communities hosting our major infrastructure projects see real, lasting benefits from investment. Working across projects in the Midlands and North of England, you'll help turn community aspirations into meaningful programmes that create social, economic and environmental value for years to come.
This is a career-defining opportunity to influence nationally significant infrastructure projects while seeing the tangible difference your work makes in communities across the UK.
We offer hybrid working, with flexibility required for regular travel to offices, sites and events across London, the Midlands and the North of England.
What you'll be doing
You'll play a leading role in developing and delivering community benefit programmes across National Grid's portfolio of major infrastructure projects. Working alongside project teams, External Affairs colleagues, Community Liaison Officers, local authorities and community stakeholders, you'll help maximise the positive impact of our investments.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver community funds across major infrastructure projects.
- Work closely with local communities to understand priorities and identify opportunities for investment and support.
- Build trusted relationships with local community groups, delivery partners and key stakeholders.
- Support community engagement activities that help shape meaningful local initiatives.
- Lead governance, reporting and assurance processes to ensure funding is delivered compliantly and transparently.
- Procure and manage grant fund administrators and external delivery partners.
- Monitor programme performance, budgets and funding activity.
- Develop case studies and success stories that showcase the positive legacy of our projects.
- Act as the go-to expert for community benefit activity across your project portfolio.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
