About The Team & Role
Are you passionate about archives, metadata, and making collections more accessible for future generations?
Gloucestershire Archives is looking for a Community Cataloguing Archivist to help appraise, arrange, and catalogue archive collections in both digital and analogue formats. Based at the Heritage Hub, you will play an important role in improving access to Gloucestershire’s records, supporting the long-term care of collections, and helping people discover the stories they contain.
In this role, you will:
- Appraise and catalogue archives in all formats using Epexio collections management software
- Prepare collections for long-term storage and process new additions to our collections
- Ensure records are properly protected, labelled, and stored by ingesting digital records to the digital store and locating analogue records in the strongrooms
- Train, support, and supervise volunteers and project groups involved in this project
The post is a fixed term contract for 20 months in the first instance and up to 2 years if additional funding is secured.
About You
To thrive in this role, you will have:
- A strong understanding of the appraisal and cataloguing of archives in both digital and analogue formats
- An awareness of the challenges and opportunities involved in preserving and providing access to archival collections
- Organisational, methodical, and confident working with a wide variety of archival material
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain complex information clearly and engagingly
- A flexible and proactive approach to contribute to the successful delivery of cataloguing objectives and deadlines

The council is not currently able to offer sponsorship in this role. Candidates will need to have the right to work that enables them to commit to at least 6 months' employment. Right to work is not transferable from a sponsored role held with another employer.
