Community Dietitian
Job Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and friendly Dietetic service working across the Borough of Waltham Forest in north east London.
The successful candidate will:
- Consolidate their knowledge and gain experience in nutrition support, diabetes, home enteral feeding
- Mentor students within NELFT
- Embrace digital technologies for consultations
- Develop an online resource hub to support patient experience
The post holder will manage their own caseload, cover a specific geographic area, run clinics (face-to-face/Virtual), and undertake home visits as needed.
Support Provided:
- Mentoring sessions with a designated supervisor
- Attendance at monthly team meetings
- A 9–12-month NELFT preceptorship programme
- Guidance from senior team members during phased autonomy

Main Duties
Self-Management & Professional Development
- Organise, prioritise and execute workload tasks delegated by senior staff
- Foster professional curiosity and act upon findings
- Maintain competency via:
- Regular CPD activities
- Up-to-date knowledge of Trust policies and national standards
- Annual appraisals
- Develop a personal development plan via supervision
Risk & Compliance
- Engage in weekly safety huddles
- Report incidents and escalate risks
- Ensure auditable records for Trust policy compliance
Clinical Responsibilities
Act autonomously as a registered practitioner
- Deliver service to patients/clients
- Conduct patient assessments (including complex/multi-pathology cases)
- Monitor progress and adjust clinical interventions
- Base treatment on research, evidence-based practice or literature reviews
- Create/review:
- New literature presentations
- Online resources
- Initiate referrals to specialist services
- Educate patients/relatives on routes to dignity, independence, and quality of life
- Premium-collect data for service audit/research

Leadership
- Nobal contribution to Nutrition & Dietetic Service development:
- Attendance in department meetings, CPD, Journal Club
- Develop effective teamwork and cross-Trust collaborative relationships
- Promote integrated professional working (internal & external)
- Engage in working parties to enhance:
- Service delivery
- Protocols
- Guidelines
- Participate in audit processes alongside clinical governance
- Drive practice excellence via literature/peer reviews
Administration & Communication
Operational Skills
- Computer literacy with accurate record-keeping (including patient records)
- Adherence to confidentiality protocols
- Support administrative aspects of caseload management
Communication
- Wider knowledge in:
- Patient-care communication strategies (verbal/non-verbal)
- Engaging with patients, carers, colleagues, managers
- Articulate complex medical information for collaborative care and positive outcomes
- Assist in clinical policy review & service improvement
Mentorship & Training
Pre-Registration Student Supervision
- Mentor students by:
- Facilitating development
- Completing documentation
- Ensure students are actively supported and thrive in clinical learning

Further Information
- Probation (9 months): Standard for new starters (unless internal & not on probation/part-time bank role)
- High Cost Area Supplement (Outer London)
- 15% salary bonus (salary: min £4,714 – max £5,941 p.a., prorated for part-time)
