Senior Nurse – Learning Disability (Secondment, Maternity Cover)
PLEASE NOTE We will accept applications only from staff currently employed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
THIS POST IS A SECONDMENT FOR 12 MONTHS due to maternity cover. Prior permission from your line manager is mandatory before applying.
About the Role
You will work within a Multidisciplinary Team, supporting adults and children with learning disabilities and complex health needs. Your primary responsibility is to:
- Conduct needs assessments tailored for individuals
- Implement interventions focused on improving quality of life and achieving positive outcomes, collaborating with team professionals
- Provide education, knowledge, guidance, and support to:
- Student nurses
- Unqualified staff
- Clients and their families
A desirable ability to speak Welsh is noted, though all applications are welcome.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting
- Assess and plan holistic interventions alongside colleagues
- Act as a mentor and educator to junior staff
- Offer practical and emotional support to clients and families
- Demonstrate a proactive and adaptable approach

Key Requirements
Qualifications (Essential)
- Clinically qualified Registered Nurse in Learning Disability (RNLD)
Experience (Essential)
- Proven experience working in learning disability services
- Desirable: Broad clinical experience across health and social care settings
Knowledge (Essential)

Strong understanding of:
- Learning Disability, including mental health, forensic care, challenging behaviour and PLD/Complex health needs
- Current developments in clinical practice

Completed training in mentoring and assessing student nurses

Desirable: Awareness of clinical governance protocols

- Clear and professional communication
- Ability to adapt to new or changing demands
- Self-motivated and proactive approach
