Community Learning Disability Nurse INTERNAL
Secondment Opportunity: Learning Disability Nurse Role (12-Month Cover for Maternity Leave – Internal Staff Only)

About the Role
This is a 12-month temporary (secondment) clinical nurse role within a Multidisciplinary Team serving adults and children with learning disabilities and complex health needs, spanning mental health, forensic care, challenging behaviour, and Supporting People with Learning Disabilities (PLD)/Complex Health. You will work closely with in-house specialist staff and external agencies.
Essential Requirements for Application:
- You must obtain prior written approval from your line manager before applying.
- Full-time OR part-time equivalent availability for the agreed shift patterns during the 12-month period, with eligibility to return to your original post thereafter: Once resumed, no automatic right to extended return applies.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll perform core aspects of nursing practice while contributing to:
- Assessment & Intervention
- Conduct comprehensive, individualised needs assessments, ensuring interventions maximise quality of life and achieve outcomes in collaboration with families, carers, and other multi-agency partners (e.g., occupational therapists, psychologists).
- Maintain Patient Records/Care Plans, evaluating progress and legislative compliance.

- Clinical & Mentoring Support
- Actively mentor and guide unqualified staff/students through their learning process.

- Deliver tailored education and support to clients, their families, and carers (inclusive of signposting to additional services).
- Team Collaboration
- Proactively align your planning with other professionals within the MDT, adhering to professional and ethical standards (e.g., standards of the Royal College of Nursing).
Desirable:
- Welsh competency (spoken), though not a strict essential for this role—considerate attention to cultural awareness and language of service users’ communication preferences appreciated.
