The Public Map
The Public Map is a major research project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. It is based across Wrexham, Llangefni, Cardiff and Cambridge, and is led by the Public Map team in the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge, in collaboration with Cardiff University, Wrexham University and a wide range of other partners.

The Public Map Is Looking To Recruit
- One Mapper for the Wrexham Room, Wrexham
- One Mapper in the Social Science Research Park (SPARK) in Cardiff
- One Mapper in Llangefni, Anglesey

The role is offered on either a part-time basis (0.6FTE) or full-time.
The community mappers will work in schools, leisure centres and events across Wales helping children and young people create data for our community made maps. Three different kinds of data will be collected - environmental, social and cultural.

A Typical Day Could Include
- Catching up with the Project Coordinator, either in person or online
- Working with colleagues to plan and deliver mapping 'lessons' in schools
- Showing young people how to use mapping software and environmental monitoring kits
- Collecting feedback on the mapping process and feeding the data back to the project team in line with project procedures
- Supporting children to become community scientists with a passion for the future of the area
- Working within schools to explain to children, young people and their families how they can effect change in their own community.
Flexibility, excellent communication skills, and a desire to work with the community will ensure that this role is enjoyable and fulfilling. The role would particularly suit those with experience in classrooms.
The post-holders will be working with children and young people and so an enhanced DBS check will be completed as part of the induction process and must be obtained.
