Community Mental Health Nurse

Fixed Term / Secondment for 12 Months: Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse (Older Adults)

Location: New Craig’s Hospital, Inverness (covering Inverness and surrounding areas)

Fixed Term: 12 months

About The Service

The Older Adult Community Mental Health Team (OA CMHT) at NHS Highland delivers an innovative, community-based service focused on high-quality, holistic care for older adults and their families/carers. The team works in partnership with health and social care professionals to:

  • Assess and identify the mental, physical, and social needs of older people
  • Develop and implement personalised care plans addressing all aspects of wellbeing
  • Coordinate and evaluate care programmes across diverse settings
  • Promote wellbeing and reduce health inequalities through robust clinical governance

The role involves regular community and lone working.


The Role

As a Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk assessment and management planning
  • Collaborating with individuals, families, and carers to develop, implement, and review person-centred care plans
  • Delivering evidence-based interventions and acting as a care coordinator within a multidisciplinary team
  • Working closely with health, social care, and third-sector partners to ensure integrated support
  • Contributing to clinical governance, service improvement, and maintaining high standards of electronic record-keeping

What We’re Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (Level 1) with valid NMC registration
  • Experience in community mental health or a relevant clinical setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently in a community setting
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care
  • UK driving license (use of own vehicle required)

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience working with older adults and/or dementia care
  • Knowledge of stress and distress management
  • Familiarity with local pathways and multi-agency working
