Community Producer
Community Producer – Permanent NUJ Contract

As a Community Producer, your role is crucial to maintaining rich, thoughtful debate across theguardian.com and our other platforms, nurturing interaction between our readers, journalists, and contributors. You'll shape the Conversations strand—part of our strategy to highlight the expertise behind Guardian journalism—while engaging diverse audiences on topics ranging from politics and foreign affairs to culture and human endeavour.
The Role
- Develop and publish editorial content for our Conversations strand, led by the Head of Community Engagement.
- Host and moderate conversations across platforms—off-platform and on—to ensure they run smoothly, remain inclusive, and bridge the gap between our digital audience and journalists.
- Monitor and manage reader comments on theguardian.com, enforcing community standards and ensuring debates align with terms and conditions.
- Identify potential news trends to alert editorial colleagues, sharpening our audience insight.
- Attend weekly and daily editorial meetings, contributing to idea generation and planning.
- Nurture debate by adapting to editorial initiatives and leveraging new tools.
- Liaise with editors to resolve comment-related issues, fostering best practices in community interaction.

What We’re Looking For
This role seeks candidates with:
- Proven experience managing online communities, with expertise in social media tactics, audience behavior, and platform dynamics.
- Strong knowledge of news trends, diverse perspectives, and current affairs—both national and international—in subjects like politics, culture, or human endeavour.
- Familiarity with the spectrum of Guardian content, including all digital platforms and cross-channel discussions.
- Diplomatic skills to navigate the intersection of community and editorial priorities—balancing freedom of expression with responsibility.
- Understanding of UK libel and defamation laws, as well as journalistic ethics.
- A multi-lens approach to reporting, ensuring fair, inclusive, and representative discussions.
