Job Opportunity: Full-Time Community Programmer

Location: Halifax and Bedford Reports To: Manager, Community Development & Support

Responsibilities

  • Provides recreational leadership and coordination in the development of programs
  • Implements and evaluates programs and services
  • Builds financially sustainable programs
  • Develops internal and external relationships to promote the program

Tasks

  • Facilitates and participates in the implementation of programs and activities based on needs, interests, and capabilities of members/clients
  • Provides team leadership and coordination in all aspects of programs and clubs, working closely with program leaders, paid instructors, and the program committee
  • Coordinates volunteer assignments within Community Recreation, providing training and support as needed
  • Develops and maintains communication links with multiple internal and external clients
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental goals and objectives
  • Ensures the needs of internal and external clients are anticipated and satisfied
  • Ensures programs and events are financially sustainable
  • Assists in the development of promotional materials relating to programs and events
  • Coordinates all aspects of membership and promotes membership growth
  • Provides administrative support for membership, registration, ticket sales, point-of-sale systems, office deposits, and other operational needs
  • Assists callers, membership, clients, and customers with appropriate information and support
  • Participates in team planning and departmental operations
  • Performs other duties as required

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience in providing leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating recreational programs in a community-based setting
  • Previous experience working directly with seniors or at-risk populations is considered a strong asset
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline
  • Completed courses in Gerontology, Health Promotion, Kinesiology, or Recreation are considered assets
  • Experience in geriatric programming is considered a strong asset
  • Must be able to work well with people across various generations and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Ability to work well under minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work at all Northwood campuses as required
  • Access to reliable transportation

Employment Details

  • Hours: 80 hours bi-weekly (8-hour shifts)
  • Salary/Benefits: As per the Northwood scale
  • Start Date: Immediate
