The Role
Job Title: Community Ranger Salary: £30,105 pro rata Contract Type: Permanent Hours: 22.5 hours per week Vacancy Closes: 9th July, 23:58
What You’ll Do
As a Community Ranger, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving access to recreation facilities for the community. Your responsibilities include:
- Engaging with the local community to generate income, answering enquiries, and strengthening community connections
- Building meaningful relationships with volunteers to enhance visitor experiences
- Supporting recovery initiatives for the Forest of Dean impacted by Ash Dieback disease
- Working with Forest Teams to promote the protection of biodiversity and wildlife habitats
Your work will directly contribute to the enjoyment and accessibility of our nation’s forests.
Where You’ll Work
The West England Forest District looks after 38,500 ha of forests across south-west and west England, from Shrewsbury to Bodmin Moor and the woodlands of Cornwall—including the historic and iconic Savernake Forest.

Your primary base will be in Coleford, Forest of Dean, a haven for nature with dense woodland and open spaces. The West England team includes Beat Foresters, Work Supervisors, Wildlife Rangers, Forest Craftspersons, and Forest Wardens.
