Complex Polyp Clinical Nurse Specialist
Complex Polyp Clinical Nurse Specialist – Aintree Site – Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team of specialised health professionals, dedicated to the Aintree site complex polyp service. This role requires leading the complex polyp service with support from a Nurse Endoscopist Service Lead. Complex polyp experience is essential.
The complex polyp service operates under the Gastroenterology Clinical Nurse Specialist team, maintaining close collaborative links with surgical CNS and BCSP teams.
Responsibilities
The Complex Polyp Clinical Nurse Specialist role encompasses a broad range of highly skilled patient-facing and pathway-critical duties, including:
- Management of patients requiring high-risk complex endoscopic procedures
- Autonomous nurse-led clinics, covering:
- New patient assessment
- Histology review
- Site checks
- Surveillance clinics
- Reviewing complex polyp referrals and listing for complex polyp MDT, with cross-referrals to other MDTs as appropriate
- Leading the complex polyp MDT, translating recommendations into actionable care plans, and communicating outcomes effectively with patients and referring multidisciplinary teams (MDTs)
- Attending SERC (Specialist Endoscopic Review Committee) / SPECC (Specialist Pancreatic Endoscopy Coordination Committee) MDTs, implementing non-surgical strategies for patient care
- Providing patient communication and support

Key Duties

Specialist assessment & care coordination:
- Conduct advanced nursing assessments for patient needs, formulating, executing, and evaluating individualised care plans.
- Manage clinical caseloads with expertise in assessing, planning, and evaluating treatments.

Clinic support & collaboration:
- Assist in running nurse-led clinics/specialty services.
- Foster multi-professional teamwork in patient care, ensuring coordination of discharge arrangements, long-term follow-ups, and ongoing support.

Communications & education:
- Establish clear communication with patients, carers, and relatives, ensuring they possess the knowledge to self-manage or participate in care.
- Escalate changes in patient conditions swiftly, referring to appropriate interventions when required.

Case management & innovation:
- Offer guidance to the multi-disciplinary team, advocating innovative approaches to case management.
- Ensure adherence to high-service standards through proactive collaboration with lead clinicians, managers, and matrons.

Quality improvement:
- Support the delivery of high-quality patient care by participating in service improvements, while maintaining alignment with clinical governance and NHS standards.
