Hill McGlynn is delighted to be partnering with a leading construction retail fit-out contractor to recruit an experienced Governance & Compliance Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced business delivering high-profile retail projects across the UK.
This is a pivotal role focused on governance, compliance and project control, ensuring projects are delivered in line with client processes, contractual requirements and internal standards. While the position involves a significant amount of document management and systems administration, it is far more than an administrative role. You will be responsible for driving compliance, managing project controls and supporting continuous improvement across the business.
The Role
As Governance & Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are compliant, accurately documented and audit-ready throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Monitoring retail projects to ensure client governance processes, approval stages and procedures are followed.
- Reviewing project documentation and compliance packs for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintaining SmartSheets, milestone trackers, risk registers and project schedules.
- Chasing project teams for outstanding documentation, approvals and overdue submissions.
- Managing change control requests when project dates or milestones are amended.
- Preparing contractual documentation for execution through DocuSign.
- Monitoring project deadlines and ensuring audit readiness.
- Identifying compliance risks and coordinating corrective actions.
- Producing reports on KPIs, project performance, workload, risks and delivery issues.
- Assisting with resource planning across project teams, typically looking two to three weeks ahead.
- Training new employees on governance procedures and supporting process improvements across the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
