Compliance Advisory Consultant - Second Line (UK)

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Edinburgh, Alderley Park

Working Style: Hybrid (50% home/office-based)

  • Proactive guidance
  • Second-line oversight

  • Pragmatic regulatory advice

We seek an experienced, commercially aware Compliance Advisory professional who can serve as a trusted business partner while maintaining independence.


About The Role

As a second-line advisor, you’ll influence key decisions and guide regulatory risk management across:

  • Key Areas (examples):
    • Customer communications
    • Pensions
    • Protection
    • Digital delivery

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver clear, pragmatic regulatory advice for change initiatives and business-as-usual (BAU) activities.
  • Actively challenge the business to ensure comprehensive identification, understanding, and mitigation of regulatory risks.
  • Build credible and influential relationships with senior stakeholders while upholding independence.
  • Support governance and decision-making through high-quality, insight-driven reporting for forums like:
    • SteerCo
    • Committees
  • Contribute to the Regulatory Risk Universe, aligning risks with current expectations.
  • Provide second-line oversight on customer outcomes, particularly under Consumer Duty.
  • Simplify complex regulatory needs (e.g., FCA/TPR) into practical, proportionate actions.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory updates and communicate impact, risks, and implications to the business.

About You

We’re looking for someone who can balance challenge, oversight, and commercial awareness across all stakeholder levels.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Prior experience in a Compliance Advisory/Risk Advisory (second-line) role within Financial Services.
  • Deep knowledge of FCA regulation, especially within Life & Pensions.
  • Ability to proactively challenge senior stakeholders—more than just providing guidance.
  • Strong interpretation and application of regulation in a practical, outcome-driven way (not theoretical).
  • Understanding of customer outcomes and Consumer Duty expectations.
  • Experience supporting or reviewing strategic change initiatives or programmes.
  • Exceptional written communication skills like:
    • Crafting concise, governance-ready papers
    • Writing executive summaries
  • Possess confidence handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
