OUR IMPACT
Our division prevents, detects, and mitigates compliance, regulatory, and reputational risk across the firm while strengthening the firm’s culture of compliance. As an independent control function and part of the firm’s second line of defense, the Compliance team:
- Assesses compliance, regulatory, and reputational risks
- Monitors adherence to evolving laws, rules, and regulations
- Designs and implements controls, policies, procedures, and training
- Conducts independent testing, investigations, surveillance, and monitoring
- Leads responses to regulatory examinations, audits, and inquiries
The team comprises professionals from diverse backgrounds, including law, accounting, sales, and trading. We seek individuals with sound judgment, curiosity, and adaptability—key traits for navigating a dynamic regulatory landscape.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Privacy Advisory team for the European, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) regions as part of Goldman Sachs’ Global Privacy Office (GPO). The successful candidate will operate from the Birmingham or London office, providing expert guidance on complex privacy matters to senior stakeholders across the firm. The role will also focus on:
- Collaborating with colleagues to expand the firm’s privacy program
- Addressing evolving regulatory challenges
- Enhancing cross-functional engagement and collaboration
YOUR IMPACT: ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a Privacy Advisory Vice President with exceptional analytical, communication, and coordination skills to join the Global Privacy Office. This position will require:
Key Responsibilities

Risk and Strategic Assessment:
- Lead the identification and strategic assessment of privacy risks and opportunities across the firm’s business lines, products, and initiatives

Program Scaling and Governance:
- Identify and scale the firm’s global privacy program efficiently
- Oversee the development and implementation of privacy program governance frameworks with cross-functional stakeholders (Operations, Compliance, Technology, Legal, Risk)

Team Management:
- Manage a team of Privacy Advisory subject matter experts
- Ensure high-quality delivery and professional development across the advisory function

Expert Advisory Support:
- Provide expert privacy advisory guidance to business, engineering, operations, compliance teams, and more to ensure privacy-compliant initiatives

Privacy Compliance Operations:
- Oversee privacy risk assessment processes
- Review and assess products, features, and business activities against privacy requirements and standards

Collaboration and Risk Management:
- Advise cross-functional project teams on privacy implications of new initiatives and regulatory changes
- Research and assess the impact of evolving privacy and data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, UK GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, EU AI Act)
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, Engineering, and Risk teams to manage required changes

Tool Development and Optimization:
- Collaborate with Engineering teams to improve or design new privacy compliance tools

Stakeholder Engagement and Culture:
- Promote privacy risk accountability across the firm’s first line of defense through engagement, education, and influence

Policy Development:
- Shape and advise on privacy program policies and procedures to align with regulatory expectations and business realities

Contribution to GPO Initiatives:
- Contribute to additional privacy office activities as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent overseas); legal degree is valuable but not mandatory
- European Data Protection Board (EPDB) Certified Information Privacy Professional/ Europe (CIPP/E) or equivalent certification
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, including:
- At least 5 years in the Privacy or Data Protection domain
- Prefer candidates with experience working across global privacy and data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, UK GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, EU AI Act)
- Financial services industry experience strongly preferred
