Compliance Advisor (Second Line of Defence) – SquareTrade

About the Role

This is a second line of defence compliance role within the Advisory Team, responsible for driving regulatory compliance at SquareTrade Ltd, SquareTrade Europe Ltd, and SquareTrade Europe BV.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Product Oversight and Governance (POG) framework
  • FCA, MFSA, and FSMA compliance
  • Fair value assurance
  • Consumer Duty obligations
  • Conduct risk management and training

The role operates as an advisory function, offering expert guidance to ensure the smooth delivery of compliant products across the business lifecycle.


Responsibilities

Product Oversight & Governance (POG)

  • Manage the development and continuous improvement of the POG framework in compliance with UK and EU regulations.
  • Ensure SquareTrade’s systems and controls aligned with:
    • Product lifecycle management
    • Approval and distribution processes
    • Fair value and fitness-for-purpose assessments
  • Monitor ongoing fair value compliance through the POG framework and product lifecycle.
  • Coordinate POG committee meetings, delivering documentation on time and ensuring:
    • Organizational action items are completed
    • Proper record-keeping is maintained
    • Regulatory challenges are met

Consumer Duty & Conduct Risk

  • Provide advice and training on Product Oversight and Consumer Duty.
  • Lead the monthly Consumer Duty Forum, including MI coordination.
  • Assist the Senior Manager in quarterly Consumer Duty Committee meetings:
    • Guide 1st-line teams to develop compliant content
    • Challenge and advise for customer-centric outcomes
  • Drive good conduct across the business to prioritise policyholder/customer benefits.
  • Review, sign off, and advise on Operations compliance training materials.

Regulatory Compliance & Business Operations

  • Support the Senior Manager in ensuring Operations teams align with regulatory standards.
  • Provide compliance guidance across the business on operational practices.
  • Maintain up-to-date regulatory knowledge across FCA, FSMA, MFSA, and NBB.
  • Monitor conduct risk indicators to identify potential risks.
  • Champion compliance awareness and culture across SquareTrade.

Requirements

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical capability.

  • Ability to work independently whilst contributing as a team player.
  • Proficiency in planning, organization, and stakeholder engagement across organisational levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into practical guidance.

Technical Competencies

  • Familiarity with UK/EEA insurance sector and financial product compliance.
  • Deep knowledge of FCA, MFSA, and FSMA regulatory frameworks.
  • IT literacy for regulatory reporting and compliance tools.

Qualifications

Preferred & Advantageous Qualifications

  • Degree-qualified or ACII membership (or obtaining qualifications).
  • Prior involvement with relevant regulatory qualifications.
  • Expertise in Product Governance, Consumer Duty, and regulatory change within FCA-regulated financial services.
  • Experience working with FCA-, MFSA-, and FSMA-regulated entities.

Required Experience

Must have relevant professional experience in one or more of the following:

  • Product Governance in an FCA-regulated business.
  • Consumer Duty and regulatory change in financial services.
  • Compliance and advisory roles in insurance or financial product distribution.
  • Familiarity with general insurance products and their regulatory landscape.
