About the Role
Coventry’s Vision & Challenge
Coventry is growing with an expanding population and a thriving private rented sector. A key priority for Coventry City Council is to keep residents safe and address poor housing conditions.
Our Private Rented Sector (PRS) Team manages:
- Complaints and enforcement across privately rented homes
- Mandatory and Additional HMO licensing schemes (Dealing with poor management of HMO properties)
This role offers an opportunity to work in a busy, high-profile environment, conducting inspections and enforcing standards across private rentals, HMOs, and HMO licensing.

Compliance Officer
Position Overview
We are seeking a Compliance Officer to join the Safer Housing and Communities Team. You will report to the HMO Team Managers and deliver key services supporting landlords, tenants, and residents across Coventry.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload while ensuring compliance with HMO licence conditions and rented housing regulations.
- Support enforcement investigations conducted by HMO Team Managers and other Environmental Health Officers.
- Conduct inspections, casework, and compliance checks to uphold housing standards.
- Provide professional advice to landlords, tenants, and internal teams on rental compliance.

Key Requirements
- Right to Work in the UK (No sponsorship available)
- Diverse experience in housing enforcement and private rented sector regulation, with a focus on HMOs.
- Proven ability to effectively manage a high caseload in a regulated environment.
- A relevant qualification (preferably in Environmental Health, Housing Law, or similar regulatory field).
- Experience working within a council or similar public sector enforcement role.
- Strong problem-solving, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
