Compliance Onboarding Analyst
Location: Edinburgh, UK Type of Role: Full time Working Arrangement: In office, 4 days per week

About the Role
Modulr’s mission is to empower businesses, from SMEs to Enterprises across the UK and Europe, to efficiently and seamlessly pay-in, collect, and disburse funds instantly through various payment schemes, accounts, and card products. Discover more about us on our website and careers page.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct Customer Due Diligence (CDD) for both individual and corporate clients, encompassing Simplified Due Diligence (SDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), screening and reviewing historical data for adverse media, sanctions, and Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) scrutiny.
- Review, update, and maintain customer records according to FCA guidelines, UK/EU AML directives, and internal risk policies.
- Collect, verify, and assess KYC/KYB (Know Your Customer/Know Your Business) documentation, including:
- Proof of identity (ID)
- Address verification
- Ownership structures and corporate hierarchies
- Perform sanctions, PEP, and adverse media screenings, escalating hits or anomalies strictly through escalation protocols.
- Complete Client Risk Assessments, producing meticulous and reason-ed outputs in compliance with company standards.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to resolve discrepancies and address challenges in onboarding cases.
- Ensure accurate documentation of all due diligence activities, maintaining audit readiness, compliance with GDPR regulations, and risk mitigation policies.
- Identify and propose improvements to the CDD onboarding process, highlighting opportunities for automation where appropriate.

Requirements:
Skills & Experience
- 2+ years of experience in CDD, KYC, AML, or financial crime roles within a regulated financial institution or fintech company.
- A robust understanding of UK/EU AML regulations, encompassing JMLSG (Joint Money Laundering Steering Group) guidance and FCA expectations.
- Familiarity with a variety of client structures, including:
- Corporates
- Trusts
- Partnerships
- Beneficial ownership structures
- Strong analytical skills paired with a meticulous attention to detail, capable of managing high-volume work efficiently while meeting tight deadlines.
- Experience with screening and data tools such as Orbis, Moody’s, or similar platforms.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in:
- Excel (intermediate to advanced level)
- CRM/KYC platforms
- Document management systems
- Ability to operate independently while remaining accountable, with the capacity to collaborate strategically with cross-functional teams to align with shared objectives.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience managing multi-jurisdictional or cross-border AML/financial crime requirements.
- Awareness of EU business structures and cross-border AML frameworks.
- A forward-thinking and inventive mindset, actively exploring ways to improve CDD processes through automation or technology.
