Working closely with our Financial Services legal teams, we partner with clients to deliver complex regulatory, risk, compliance, and transformation programmes across banking, payments, fintech, asset management, and insurance sectors.

Our Financial Services consultancy supports organisations navigating regulatory scrutiny, large-scale remediation activity, financial crime transformation, control enhancement programmes, and regulatory change initiatives.

Compliance Oversight Manager - Contract - 4 Months

About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Compliance Oversight Manager to join the second line of defence (2LoD) within a growing, innovative financial services organisation. This role sits within the Compliance Assurance & Oversight team and offers the chance to lead a range of cross-functional compliance activities while supporting a strong culture of governance, conduct and regulatory excellence.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across Risk, Compliance and the wider business, you'll play a key role in overseeing conduct risk, enhancing compliance frameworks and ensuring the organisation continues to meet its regulatory obligations in an evolving landscape.

The Role

As Compliance Oversight Manager, you will take ownership of several key compliance oversight responsibilities, including whistleblowing, SMCR, market abuse, regulatory change and conduct risk. You will also contribute to broader assurance activity through compliance monitoring and targeted assurance reviews, helping to drive continuous improvement across the function.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical regulatory knowledge with practical problem-solving, stakeholder engagement and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the organisation's Whistleblowing (Speak Up) framework, including:
    • Managing confidential whistleblowing cases from initial assessment through to conclusion.
    • Supporting senior leadership and the Whistleblowing Champion on sensitive investigations.
    • Liaising confidentially with whistleblowers and relevant stakeholders.
    • Maintaining whistleblowing policies, procedures and training.
    • Preparing regular Board-level reporting on the effectiveness of the whistleblowing framework.
  • Produce compliance reporting for Executive and Board Risk Committees, including monthly Compliance reporting.
  • Provide second line oversight and subject matter expertise across employee-related compliance matters, including:
    • Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SMCR)
    • Conduct Rules
    • Market Abuse
    • Conflicts of Interest
  • Support the design and review of conduct risk and compliance training.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment and implementation of regulatory change in partnership with Compliance Advisory teams.
  • Review and enhance compliance policies and procedures to ensure they remain aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
  • Provide oversight of regulatory breaches and incident management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve, streamline and automate compliance processes through the effective use of technology.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of a high-performing Compliance function and centre of excellence.
  • Support the delivery of compliance assurance reviews and monitoring activities across the business.

About You

We're looking for a proactive compliance professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, evolving regulated environment.

  • Experience leading whistleblowing investigations and managing associated governance processes.
  • Previous experience within Compliance, Risk or Internal Audit in a regulated financial services environment.
  • Investigation experience involving regulatory or employee-related compliance matters.
  • Strong working knowledge of the FCA Handbook, particularly SYSC and SMCR.
  • A solid understanding of second line risk and compliance functions and the three lines of defence model.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with experience identifying efficiencies and leveraging technology to enhance compliance processes.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • A genuine passion for compliance and the value it brings to a business beyond regulatory obligations.
  • An interest in innovation and the future of financial services, with enthusiasm for using data and technology to strengthen compliance frameworks.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in Compliance Assurance and Compliance Monitoring.
  • Experience delivering assurance reviews within a regulated financial services environment.
