Quality & Compliance Manager (Food Packaging Industry)

About the Role
This position ensures Sabert Corporation’s compliance with British and international standards, including health and safety legislation, food contact materials regulations, and environmental sustainability. The successful candidate will advise the company on best practices for production quality, safety, and compliance across its operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Specifying Standards
- Assess product specifications, customer requirements, and industry expectations
- Define and agree in-house (product) standards for internal and supplier implementation
- Work with operational teams to establish processes and procedures
- Maintain documentation and controls for all standards and testing
- Ensure tests and procedures are properly understood, executed, and monitored

2. Compliance Management
- Ensure daily compliance with national and international standards (e.g., ISO 9001, BRCGS, ISO 45001, FSC/PEFC, SEDEX, ISO 14001) and EU food contact materials regulations
- Provide compliance documentation to satisfy customer requests
- Conduct, oversee, and analyse internal and supplier audits
- Act as the primary point of contact for compliance auditors, customers, and quality managers
- Implement and communicate corrective actions following audits
- Supervise (or conduct) day-to-day quality control, including QC testing facility oversight
3. Complaints Handling
- Coordinate all customer complaints regarding product and service quality
- Investigate complaints and update customers on progress
- Ensure remedial actions or product rectification by the company or suppliers
- Propose, document, and implement process improvements where necessary
- Manage supplier claims (raw materials and finished products)

4. Authorities & Accountabilities
- Procurement authority: Approve payments for contractor/consultant services (pre-approval required from line manager)
- Discipline: Uphold company standards for staff conformance and collaborate with HR on disciplinary actions if needed
Measures of Performance
- Maintenance and expansion of commercially relevant accreditation portfolios
- Continuous development of systems and procedures supporting operational excellence
- Up-to-date expertise in food packaging compliance and sustainability
- Professional and timely resolution of customer communications and quality/safety incidents
- Ongoing improvement of compliance and sustainability standards
Candidate Requirements
- Recent, proven experience in compliance and quality assurance, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Strong communicator and motivator, able to engage with internal and external stakeholders
- Self-driven, highly organised, and safety-conscious with a results-oriented mindset
- Proficient in verbal and written communication (fluency in English is essential)
- Full proficiency in standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
