What you’ll be doing
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Component Engineer to join our Manufacturing Operations team in the UK. In this role, you’ll work closely with our Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to support both new product introduction and volume manufacturing. You'll work with internal stakeholders, component suppliers, and external contract manufacturers, managing the specification, selection, and sourcing of components required to manufacture our products to the appropriate performance, reliability, quality, and yield.
The Team
The role will be as part of the Manufacturing and Technology Process team at Graphcore. This team is part of the Operations group and has members in Bristol, Cambridge, and Taiwan. The team is responsible for developing and maintaining robust manufacturing processes at the wafer foundry, package assembly, and PCBA subcontractors based in Taiwan.

Responsibilities And Duties
- Support the selection, evaluation, and qualification of electronic and electro-mechanical components to meet agreed design and manufacturing requirements.
- Create and maintain approved component lists and Bills of Material (BoM) revisions using the Arena BoM management, or other tools as required.
- Using published data, ensure components and products meet industry compliance requirements for quality, emissions, safety, and the environment.
- Survey the market to identify or develop enabling component technologies for next-generation products.
- Assess component supply risks, manage component obsolescence, and propose alternative sourcing solutions to ensure continuity of supply.
- Occasional global travel to supplier sites may be required.
Candidate Profile Requirements
- In-depth working knowledge of BOM management and sourcing systems such as Arena and Silicon Expert.
- Excellent electronics knowledge and familiarity with component parameters and datasheets.
- Good understanding of PCB manufacturing and SMT assembly processes.
- Ability to understand the interaction and dependencies between silicon, package, and PCB design.
- Experienced in working with leading-edge suppliers in the electronics supply chain, preferably with offshore contract manufacturers.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to collaborate effectively across global teams.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in using data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI) to support component and supply chain decisions.
- BEng/HND Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience.
