The RoleAs a Composites Engineer, you will be responsible for activities relating to the verification and validation of composite structural and non-structural components from coupon testing through to large assemblies. The engineer will be expected to work with other teams supporting the development of both bonded and bolted composite joints and the design of the composite to metalwork interface.
The successful candidate will have experience in verification and validation of composite structures using pre-preg and resin infusion techniques.
You will have a proven track record of delivering to time and budget on complex programmes and an ability to work independently and critically review their own work. The candidate will also be involved in the peer reviewing of other engineering work packages in support of your colleagues.
Whilst the role has a specific focus, there will be opportunities to be involved in the group’s wider work streams, which include propulsor and propeller design, dynamic stability, quasi-static stability, seakeeping, resistance and propulsion of surface ships and submarines.
Your responsibilities will include:
Using your skills and knowledge to develop the capabilities in the areas you are working in; mentor others to improve the knowledge of your areas of expertise within the wider engineering and technical communities Combining composites subject matter expertise and sound engineering judgement to solve problems Breaking down complex tasks and then execute the planned schedule of work Use your experience in validation and verification to provide justification statements Giving technical presentations and talk knowledgably about the work conducted in external forums, including conferences and in customer meetings

Essential experience of the Composites Engineer:
Demonstrable experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Strong experience in verification and validation Understanding of composites and structural assessment, preferably maritime structures
Essential qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer:
BEng / MEng in Naval Architecture, Materials Engineering or Mechanical/Structural Engineering, or equivalent knowledge from previous experience

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Gosport site.
