What Does a Conference Producer Do?

Conference Producers play a central role in creating successful business events. They are naturally curious, commercially minded individuals who enjoy researching emerging trends, connecting with influential people, and building engaging event programmes that deliver real value to attendees and sponsors.

From the initial idea through to the event itself, Conference Producers are responsible for shaping the content, identifying opportunities in the market, and ensuring each event is both relevant and commercially successful.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting in-depth market and topic research (desk research and calls) to identify timely, engaging, and commercially attractive themes.
  • Creating compelling conference agendas and marketing copy that address the challenges and opportunities facing an industry.
  • Conducting market mapping to analyse who buys and sells to whom and gain insight into the dynamics shaping key industry relationships.
  • Identifying, approaching, and securing senior-level speakers and industry experts.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with executives, thought leaders, and key stakeholders.
  • Managing event projects from concept through to delivery.
  • Collaborating closely with marketing, sales, and operations teams to maximise the event's success.
  • Attending and supporting events on-site.

At its heart, conference production is a research-driven role. Successful producers love learning about industries, spotting trends before they become mainstream, and speaking with experts to understand what matters most to the market. They enjoy connecting people, bringing together influential voices, and creating opportunities for meaningful business conversations.

The role also requires strong commercial awareness. Every event is managed like its own business, so producers must understand market demand, identify growth opportunities, and develop programmes that attract delegates, sponsors, and speakers. The best Conference Producers combine intellectual curiosity, excellent communication and project management skills, relationship-building ability, and commercial savvy to create events that deliver measurable results.

Key Attributes

  • Self-motivated and eager to learn: You take initiative, are curious about the world of technology and business, and thrive on gaining new skills and knowledge.
  • Competitive, driven, and tenacious: You have a strong desire to succeed, aren’t afraid of challenges, and are persistent in pursuing results and reaching goals.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator: You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and work effectively with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders, building strong relationships and conveying ideas clearly.
  • Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail: You can manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Curious and analytical thinker: You have a natural curiosity and a passion for research, with the ability to analyse information critically, identify patterns, and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Project management skills: You can prioritise effectively, manage timelines, and coordinate tasks to meet business goals and deadlines.
  • Passion for marketing and audience engagement: You enjoy crafting messages that resonate and have experience (or a keen interest) in engaging audiences through digital channels such as social media, email campaigns, or online events.
  • Adaptable and resilient: You remain composed under pressure, embrace change, and thrive in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
