Configuration Manager Location: Templecombe, Crawley or Cheadle – United Kingdom Hybrid working | 37 hours per week
About the Role
Step into an impactful role where your care, curiosity, and diligence safeguard our organisation’s critical product data across its entire lifecycle. As a Configuration Manager within Thales Underwater Systems, you’ll ensure our engineering teams have the clarity and confidence they need to deliver successful projects. Work at the heart of system integration, collaborating closely while developing your expertise in a supportive, people-centred culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead configuration planning and maintain Configuration Management (CM) plans, baselines, and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage configuration change control, including:
- Coordination with Configuration Control Boards (CCB)
- Ensuring traceability and approvals for all changes
- Ensure product definition accuracy, including:
- Managing Bills of Materials
- Maintaining “as built,” “as installed,” and “as tested” records
- Conduct configuration audits (PCA/FCA) and verify compliance with:
- External standards (e.g., DEF Stan 00-057)
- Supplier/contractor CM practices
- Maintain Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) data integrity, ensuring:
- Correct registration
- Accurate release management
- Full lifecycle traceability for all configuration items

Requirements & Skills
To excel in this role, you will have:
✅ A strong understanding of Configuration Management (CM) processes, including:
- PLM tools (e.g., TeamCenter, SAP MII, SmartPLM)
- Hardware/software CM practices
✅ Knowledge of systems engineering and system integration principles
✅ Experience navigating complexity, adapting to change, and applying Lean/Agile methodologies
✅ Relevant industry experience, preferably in:
- Defence
- Engineering
- MOD-related projects
✅ Confident communicator with the ability to:
- Build reputations and maintain trust
- Lead effective supplier/partner collaboration
Security Clearance Requirement
Due to the sensitive nature of the role:
- UK Nationality mandatory to achieve SV (Security Vetting) clearance.
- If currently unavailable, security clearance must be obtained prior to employment.
- Typically requires 5 consecutive years of UK residency (exceptions may apply with successive checks). Further guidance: UKSV Security Clearance
