National Highways Construction Assurance Manager Opportunity

National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Construction Assurance Manager to join our team in the West Yorkshire region. The Construction Assurance Manager will play a key role in the delivery of National Highways Capital Investment Schemes by representing the company's interests on civil engineering construction and maintenance sites.

Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Construction Manager, you will actively ensure construction schemes are delivered in line with time, cost, quality, safety standards, and customer experience is not adversely impacted. This well-established team prides itself on its culture and this role will give you a varied, challenging workday, every day.

Please note additional and/or unsociable working hours including night working may be required for which there will be paid overtime and/or a nightwork uplift.

This role will require travel across the Yorkshire region and will be based in Wakefield. You will also be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assuring the completion of planned works to agreed standards and escalating any concerns to the Construction Manager, in line with agreed governance requirements.
  • Ensuring that all works are constructed in line with:
    • CDM regulations
    • HSE Legislation
    • Chapter 8 requirements
    • Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB)
    • Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works (MCHW)
  • Ensuring Project Managers receive regular and timely feedback on scheme construction progress, risks, early warnings, design-related issues, and act as the initial point of escalation for any on-site issues that need to be resolved.
  • Acting as liaison between all key supply chain partners and coordinating the delivery programme, ensuring buildability reviews are carried out on all projects.
  • Maintaining good liaison with Project Managers and Commercial & Procurement colleagues, providing relevant and timely information on Early Warnings and Compensation Events.

Requirements

  • Proven highways/structures maintenance/construction experience; experience of working on high-speed Trunk Road/Motorway Networks is desirable.
  • Knowledge of site-based processes, relevant legislation, practices, and policies for health & safety, environmental and quality management, including a good understanding of the DMRB, MCHW, Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual, and CDM Regulations.
  • Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) or Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including stakeholder management, with a strong customer focus and managing geographically dispersed teams.
  • Experienced in using the NEC 4 ECC form of contract.
