Aim of the Role

You will lead the Site Teams in managing residential developments through to completion, ensuring that quality and cost targets are achieved in accordance with the build programme, through the effective management of the site teams and sub-contractors.

Our continued focus over the next 12 months is on Health and Safety, timber frame, and additional developments. Our residential developments are spread across Somerset and Devon.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Encourage a culture within the business of improving upon targets, developing contingency plans, whilst maintaining open and honest feedback on performance of individual site strategies
  • Ensure labour, materials, relevant information, and drawings are available in good time, with regular monitoring and control meetings to review
  • Review site progress on a regular basis and oversee/coordinate the production and monitoring of programmes, recording and tracking any delays
  • Remain visible and approachable, and ensure communication to all team members is clear, regular, and consistent
  • Conduct regular site visits and ensure regular site meetings are held
  • Provide advice, guidance, and support to the Construction Teams, both during the pre-construction and construction phases
  • Produce and circulate Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan, ensuring regular review to maintain adherence to safety procedures, as well as playing an active role in the SHE strategy for the business unit
  • Promote H&S best practice and company safety objectives/culture through personal actions, carrying out regular H&S site visits, prioritising safety at staff meetings and briefings, and adopting safe working practices where potential risks are identified and mitigated
  • Work in conjunction with the Contracts Managers to plan and allocate appropriate people to each contract, and ensure construction is consistently carried out to the highest quality
  • Understand and influence the financial status of the project focused on the site file, producing maximum return to the company of developments without compromising contract, legal, quality or safety and customer service
  • Review individuals' progress against their Action Plan on a regular basis and ensure the 1:1 process is implemented through your teams to support departmental development
  • Assess and recommend the learning and development needs of production employees, and create individual targets for the department to promote meeting business objectives

  • NVQ Level 7 in Construction Site Manager or equivalent
  • CSCS – Black Management/White Academic
  • SMSTS
  • First Aid at Work
  • BREGS or willingness to achieve in probation period
  • Fire Safety for low-rise flats and housing or willingness to achieve during probationary period
  • Significant experience of successfully delivering a programme of new housing developments
  • Leadership skills with proven experience of managing and motivating teams
  • Commercial awareness, having managed budgets and labour on new housing developments
  • Able to foster good working relationships across departments, in-office and remotely
  • Proven problem-solving and negotiation skills
