Location: Barnsley (covering sites across the East Midlands Route)
Sector: Rail (D&P / 650V Power)
About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Construction Manager to join our expanding team specialising in electrical engineering maintenance, repair, and installation of high-voltage power systems, switchgear, generators, and infrastructure plant equipment.
This role will support the continued growth of our Distribution & Plant (D&P) portfolio and prepare for upcoming works on 650V rail infrastructure.
This role is ideal for a driven rail professional with strong leadership capability and a background in 650V power installations.

About the Business Unit
You’ll be joining a busy, fast-paced Rail Systems/Electrical environment, delivering a diverse portfolio of projects across the East Midlands route. Our teams specialise in:
- 650V Signalling Power Installations
- SSP Cable Installations
- Bender Unit Installations
- Auxillary Supply Point (ASP), Functional Supply Point (FSP) & Principal Supply Point Works (PSP)
- Electrification & Power
- Signalling
- Telecoms & Comms
The Role
As the Construction Manager (Electrical), you will take full responsibility for the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of on-site works. You will be the primary point of contact for delivery, Health & Safety, quality, and site leadership.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead projects from tender input through to delivery, testing, and handback.
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements, company procedures, and industry standards.
- Plan, supervise, and implement design and construction activities for 650V installations.
- Develop and maintain:
- Construction Phase Plans
- Work Package Plans (WPPs)
- Task Briefs
- Individual Task Permits (ITPs)
- Quality documentation
- Manage site inductions, competency checks, and workforce briefings.
- Coordinate with client-appointed contractors, statutory authorities, and stakeholders.
- Manage subcontractors to ensure safety, quality, and productivity.
- Conduct regular:
- Site inspections
- Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) audits
- Engagement activities
- Monitor programme performance, identify variations, and support commercial reporting.
- Maintain cost control in partnership with commercial teams.
- Promote best practice and continuous improvement across the project team.
- Provide progress reports to senior management.
- Work towards CRE (Contractors Responsible Engineer) and RM (Responsible Manager) duties on Network Rail projects.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Construction Manager within a rail electrical or E&P (Electrical & Printing) environment.
- Strong understanding of 650V signalling power systems and associated installation practices.
- Experience in delivering E&P, M&E (Mechanical & Electrical), signalling power, telecoms, or related rail systems projects.
- Knowledge of BS 7671:2018 (18th Edition).
- Excellent leadership, planning, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple sites across a regional route.
- Experience with Class II equipment installations.
