About the Role
Expanded are seeking an experienced Earthworks Construction Manager to support our growing portfolio of major infrastructure projects across the UK. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven, technically capable professional to lead the safe and successful delivery of large-scale earthworks operations, working with industry-leading technology, plant, and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of earthworks activities, ensuring compliance with the highest Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) standards.
- Manage the interface between people, plant, and equipment to deliver safe, efficient, and productive site operations.
- Provide strong leadership and direction to site teams, fostering a high-performance culture focused on:
- Safety
- Quality
- Collaboration
- Continuous improvement
- Utilise latest earthworks technologies, including:
- GPS machine control
- Telematics
- Digital construction platforms
- Production monitoring tools to maximise efficiency and accuracy.
- Develop innovative, practical, and cost-effective solutions to technical and operational challenges.
- Apply extensive expertise in bulk earthworks, including:
- Cut and fill operations
- Earthworks balancing
- Haul route optimisation
- Stabilisation techniques
- Productivity management
- Select and optimise earthmoving plant fleets, balancing production maximisation against operational costs. -Drive project delivery against programme requirements, proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Monitor and improve commercial performance through:
- Resource planning
- Productivity analysis
- Cost control
- Value engineering initiatives
- Build and maintain strong relationships with:
- Clients
- Consultants
- Engineers
- Suppliers
- Key stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with:
- Contract requirements
- Project specifications
- Quality standards
- Mentor and develop site management teams, engineers, supervisors, and operators, fostering professional growth.

Qualifications & Experience
- Degree, HNC, or equivalent qualification in:
- Civil Engineering
- Construction Management
- Engineering Management
- Infrastructure Engineering
- (or related discipline)
- Minimum 10 years’ relevant industry experience, with significant leadership or management experience.
- Proven track record of successfully delivering large infrastructure or earthworks projects on:
- Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) standards
- Within programme
- Within budget
- Strong understanding of:
- Modern earthworks technologies
- GPS machine control systems
- Digital construction tools
- Excellent:
- Leadership skills
- Communication ability
- Commercial awareness
- Stakeholder management expertise
- Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel across the country as required.
