Construction Manager – Ground Engineering Team (Sizewell C Project)
About the Role
Join our Ground Engineering team as a Construction Manager for Sizewell C—a once-in-a-generation project delivering clean energy to 6 million homes over the next 60 years. Based in Leiston, Suffolk, this 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station will provide reliable low-carbon electricity to the Suffolk coast.
The Civil Works Alliance—comprising Sizewell C, Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics, and Laing O’Rourke—is a unique extended delivery enterprise integrating years of experience from major infrastructure programmes worldwide.
Role Purpose: Managing site operations efficiently to support large-scale or multiple projects, ensuring excellence in safety, quality, sustainability, and efficiency for project delivery.
What You’ll Be Doing
Key Responsibilities:
- Communicate process strategy and culture clearly to site staff teams to drive project delivery excellence.
- Work with the Project Manager to oversee site activities, including logistics, temporary works, plant, and workforce management for safe execution.
- Programme and deploy site staff and plant across projects, ensuring their capabilities are utilised effectively.
- Collaborate with project departments to select and deliver fit-for-purpose plant and tools on schedule.
- Partner with projects to ensure proper staffing—workforce quantity, quality, and skills mix—within agreed timelines (from setup to project lifecycle).
- Develop apprentices and the workforce to maximise competence and zero harm initiative.
- Engage with the entire process team (including operations, preconstruction, commercial, plant, resource, QA, and design) for efficient project delivery.
- Ensure operations teams adhere to the Management System via support and audits.
- Manage, develop, and coach site teams to meet targets, maintaining a relentless focus on Hazard Reduction.

Who We’re Looking For
Essential Requirements:
- CPCS Qualification (Minimum Managers & Professionals level).
- Customer-focused attitude with drive, ambition, and clear vision.
- Strong ability in conflict management and negotiation.
- Excellence in oral and written communication (all organisational levels and external stakeholders).
- Clear knowledge of Health and Safety Management.
- Experience in delivering major infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of BMS training requirements.
- Knowledge of piling and diaphragm wall techniques.
Desirable:
- Project Management qualification.
- Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with programme management tools (e.g., MS Project).
- Relevant management experience in a geotechnical environment.
- ** Previous experience working with blue-collar teams**.
