Site Operations Manager (Civil Engineering) – Hinkley Point C Project

About the Organisation

Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing O’Rourke, two of Europe’s most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are collaborating under the joint venture BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC), a project worth over £2.8 billion.

BYLOR is driving innovation and leveraging modern technology while maintaining the highest standards of quality on a massive scale. The team has already set a new UK record for the largest continuous concrete pour—9,000m³.

Purpose of the Role

You will lead and manage a team directly on-site, ensuring high-quality delivery of the main civil engineering package, including large reinforced concrete structures.


Key Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities

  • Set and enforce quality standards, creating benchmarks for the team
  • Proactively identify quality issues before works begin and implement solutions
  • Deep expertise in quality processes—understand, enforce, and communicate them to achieve project quality goals
  • Optimise work sequencing and implement protective measures to prevent damage to completed work
  • Manage the client relationship through inspection and handover processes
  • Authorise quality documents, including drafting and review
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, sharing learnings across projects
  • Monitor productivity and cost trends, taking action to ensure success
  • Deliver project completion strategies, contributing to structured planning
  • Ensure handover deadlines are met to meet client and stakeholder satisfaction
  • Directly manage the workforce

Technical Skills (Essential)

  • At least 3 years’ experience in direct delivery, overseeing a workforce of 80+ operatives on a single project
  • 3+ years’ hands-on experience with heavy reinforced concrete structures
  • Ideally 5+ years of industry experience in construction
  • Ability to deliver projects safely and to the highest standards
  • Trade background in carpentry, formwork, or reinforcement fixing
  • Strong knowledge of reinforcement detailing and fixing methods
  • Familiarity with formwork and falsework systems

  • Strong communicator with teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Respects all team members, embodying a "one team" mentality
  • Professional demeanour, representing the project values consistently
  • Committed to following established processes
  • Problem-solving mindset, reducing waste in resources and materials

Education & Qualifications

  • Construction Management qualifications preferred
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certification required
