Construction Project Manager

Position Overview

The Project Manager is responsible for managing all requirements for Civil and Construction projects, including:

  • Change orders
  • Submittals
  • Procurement
  • Project financial setup and updates
  • Project scheduling

The role ensures projects are completed on time, on budget, safely, and to the highest quality standards.

Location & Travel Requirements

This position is primarily field-based, requiring an average of 75% travel or temporary relocation to project sites. Travel is compensated with:

  • Vehicle allowance and fuel card
  • Per diem for meals and lodging

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Ensures client needs and expectations are met/exceeded across all project aspects.
  • Plans, organises and staffs key field positions, collaborating with leadership and division management.
  • Defines project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within corporate guidelines.
  • Maintains strong liaison with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to expedite construction.
  • Monitors construction through on-site superintendents, investigates risks, and implements corrective actions.
  • Rep resents the company in meetings, labor negotiations, and client engagements.

Financial & Procurement Oversight

  • Manages contract financials (fees, equipment rentals, income/expenses) to maximise profitability while maintaining client relationships.
  • Coordinates subcontractor scheduling, material deliveries, and procurement processes.

Scheduling & Documentation

  • Interprets project designs and blueprints, resolving conflicts and submitting field design changes.
  • Produces and disseminates project documentation, including:
    • Status reports
    • Punch lists
    • "As-built" drawings
    • Material requirement calculations

Equipment Operations & Maintenance

  • Assists in scheduling equipment servicing/rentals to minimize downtime and reduce costs.
  • Optimises equipment workflow for cost-effective production.

Safety & Compliance

  • Coordinates all safety protocols, including:
    • OSHA compliance
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Health and Safety Plan reviews
    • Client-specific safety requirements

Requirements & Qualifications

Industry Knowledge

  • Civil engineering & construction principles and industry standards in:
    • Mass grading & earthwork
    • Stream restoration & rehabilitation
    • Stormwater & erosion control
    • Utility infrastructure

Technical Proficiencies

  • OMNIGRAFHard Dollar, Bid Build, Heavy Build (or equivalent estimating software).
  • Primavera, MS Project (or similar for construction scheduling).
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook (or other industry tools).
  • Strong job costing, scheduling, and contract change management experience.

Soft Skills

  • Detail-oriented with strong multi-tasking and work ethic.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication (client-facing interactions mandatory).
  • Ability to interpret technical documents, solve problems, and organise complex information.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Project Management
    • Construction Management
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid office/field role with potential for:
    • Exposure to extreme temperatures (heat/cold)
    • Harmful substances (chemicals, dirt, refuse)
    • Moderate noise levels
