Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) owns vessels and harbour infrastructure necessary for vital ferry services serving many communities throughout Scotland. We have a strategic mandate to continue improving Scotland’s ferry network. We are looking for enthusiastic, innovative individuals to join us to support the development and maintenance of safe, efficient, reliable ports and harbours that serve Scotland’s islands.
We are recruiting for a Construction Project Site Supervisor on a fixed-term 2-year contract (subject to review and possible extension after this period) to help deliver our portfolio of works that adopt new technologies, upgrade facilities to accommodate new vessels, maintain existing infrastructure, and construct new ferry terminals.
The Role
- Support with the site supervision duties for the delivery of Small Vessel Replacement Programme (SVRP) projects and other CMAL projects as required. SVRP project sites being progressed by CMAL are located across the west coast and north-west of Scotland, including Colintraive, Portavadie, Largs, Tarbert Loch Fyne, Tobermory, Lochaline, and Kilchoan.
- Act as CMAL’s custodian for quality on site, and independently monitor construction works to ensure compliance with the scope of works.
- Work with CMAL’s Project Managers, external contractors and/or external engineering consultants and others as necessary.
- Work closely with the construction team on site to ensure agreed RAMS are in place, agree the Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) as required, and ensure relevant quality checks and tests are carried out.
- Conduct regular site inspections, identifying and eliminating potential safety hazards and handling on-site incidents in accordance with incident response protocols.
- Record and report any variations that may affect the forecast delivery dates, budget, or quality to the Project Manager.
- Support the project manager with regular progress updates, including weekly updates and monthly progress reports.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
