Construction Solicitor
Location: Basildon, Essex
Department: Construction Law
Position: Full-Time, Permanent
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Construction Solicitor to join our client's growing Construction team based in Basildon. This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor with proven experience in construction law who is looking to develop their career within a supportive and forward-thinking firm.
The successful candidate must have previous experience in Construction Law and be confident managing their own caseload while providing commercially focused legal advice to a diverse client base, including developers, contractors, subcontractors, consultants, landlords, and commercial businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage your own caseload of contentious and/or non-contentious construction matters.
- Draft, review and negotiate a range of construction contracts, including:
- JCT Contracts
- NEC Contracts
- Consultant appointments
- Sub-contracts
- Collateral warranties
- Performance bonds and guarantees
- Provide commercially focused legal advice on construction projects from inception through to completion.
- Advise clients on contractual risk and dispute avoidance.
- Handle construction disputes, including adjudication, mediation, arbitration, and litigation where appropriate.
- Liaise with clients, surveyors, contractors, consultants, and other professionals.
- Maintain strong client relationships and deliver an exceptional standard of client care.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and professional obligations.
- Support business development initiatives and contribute to the continued growth of the Construction department.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales).
- Previous experience in Construction Law is essential.
- Experience managing your own construction law caseload.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement, and contract negotiation.
- Experience advising on contentious and/or non-contentious construction matters.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.

Desirable
- Experience acting for developers, contractors, consultants, or commercial clients.
- Business development experience with an interest in networking and building client relationships.
- Knowledge of dispute resolution procedures, including adjudication and mediation.
