Construction Solicitor

Location: Basildon, Essex
Department: Construction Law
Position: Full-Time, Permanent

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Construction Solicitor to join our client's growing Construction team based in Basildon. This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor with proven experience in construction law who is looking to develop their career within a supportive and forward-thinking firm.

The successful candidate must have previous experience in Construction Law and be confident managing their own caseload while providing commercially focused legal advice to a diverse client base, including developers, contractors, subcontractors, consultants, landlords, and commercial businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage your own caseload of contentious and/or non-contentious construction matters.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a range of construction contracts, including:
    • JCT Contracts
    • NEC Contracts
    • Consultant appointments
    • Sub-contracts
    • Collateral warranties
    • Performance bonds and guarantees
  • Provide commercially focused legal advice on construction projects from inception through to completion.
  • Advise clients on contractual risk and dispute avoidance.
  • Handle construction disputes, including adjudication, mediation, arbitration, and litigation where appropriate.
  • Liaise with clients, surveyors, contractors, consultants, and other professionals.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and deliver an exceptional standard of client care.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and professional obligations.
  • Support business development initiatives and contribute to the continued growth of the Construction department.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales).
  • Previous experience in Construction Law is essential.
  • Experience managing your own construction law caseload.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement, and contract negotiation.
  • Experience advising on contentious and/or non-contentious construction matters.
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.

Desirable

  • Experience acting for developers, contractors, consultants, or commercial clients.
  • Business development experience with an interest in networking and building client relationships.
  • Knowledge of dispute resolution procedures, including adjudication and mediation.
