About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist with expertise in addiction medicine to provide clinical leadership, specialist assessment and treatment, and contribute to the continued delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care for individuals experiencing substance misuse and co-occurring mental health needs.
As the Clinical Lead for the service, you will work closely with the multidisciplinary team, providing expert clinical guidance, supervision, and support while ensuring the highest standards of patient care and clinical governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment for individuals with substance misuse disorders.
- Develop and oversee personalised treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Lead on complex addiction cases, including co-occurring mental health conditions.
- Conduct specialist prescribing assessments and manage treatment programmes, including opiate substitution therapy, alcohol detoxification and other pharmacological interventions.
- Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and support to prescribing staff and other clinicians.
- Promote evidence-based practice and contribute to service development, quality improvement, and clinical governance initiatives.
- Liaise effectively with GPs, mental health services, social care teams, prisons, and other partner agencies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and support the development of integrated care pathways.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with professional, contractual, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Requirements
- Medical Degree and full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practise.
- Consultant Psychiatrist on the GMC Specialist Register with endorsement in Substance Misuse.
- Demonstrable experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong experience in addiction psychiatry and substance misuse services.
- Sound knowledge of addiction treatments, including opiate substitution therapy, detoxification programmes, and complex prescribing.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable
- Section 12 Approval (or equivalent).
- Experience in clinical research.
- Experience teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Experience supporting psychiatric trainees or non-medical prescribers.
