We’re seeking an experienced Consultant Aquatic Ecologist to join AECOM’s Aquatic Ecology Team across our multi-disciplinary UK offices, including Edinburgh and Basingstoke.

As part of our growing, collaborative team, you’ll provide technical expertise on a diverse range of environmental projects, supporting local water companies, regulators like Natural England and the Environment Agency, renewable energy schemes, and nationally significant infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct aquatic surveys of freshwaters, including fish species, macroinvertebrates, crayfish, and macrophytes
  • Collaborate with environmental specialists and multi-disciplinary teams across projects
  • Sample freshwater ecosystems, processing benthic macroinvertebrates and assisting with fieldwork (e.g., fisheries, macrophytes, water quality)
  • Perform data entry, analysis, and reporting for projects while ensuring high technical quality and safety compliance
  • Support the production of Environmental Impact Assessments aligned with CIEEM guidelines
  • Deliver consultancy services and advisory work to clients and project managers -일에 chipested monitoring, impact assessments, pollution responses, and drought programmes

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
