Consultant Breast Radiologist
Consultant in Breast Radiology
Location: University Hospital Wishaw, NHS Lanarkshire (with possible cross-site working at University Hospitals Monklands and Hairmyres)
NHS Lanarkshire invites applications for the following post:
Post Title
Consultant Radiologist, subspecialty focus in Breast Radiology (10-month planned activity [PA] contract with optional Sessions Personal Assignment [SPA] consideration)
Start Date
Available from start of August 2026
About the Role
This is a replacement post in a dedicated breast radiology role. The appointment will primarily take place at University Hospital Wishaw but may require cross-site working. No on-call duty is required, though incorporation of core general radiology sessions may be possible.
The successful applicant will lead the investigation and management of benign and malignant breast diseases, covering a full spectrum of:
- One-stop clinics
- MRI reporting
- Digital Breast Tomosynthesis
- Contrast-enhanced mammography
- Wireless localisation techniques (e.g., for impalpable breast cancers)
Procedural skills must include:
- Ultrasound-guided biopsy
- Stereotactic biopsy
This role offers full-time employment on a 10 PA basis, though part-time and flexible options will be considered. Enhanced Personnel Authority (EPA) considerations will be reviewed for both full-time and part-time applicants.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist breast radiographic services across multiple sites
- Participate in multidisciplinary breast clinic triage and decision-making
- Lead service development and innovation, aligned with quality improvement, patient safety, and education initiatives
- Act as an Appraiser, educator, or researcher (if offered honorary status subject to eligibility)
- Cooperation with clinical audit and research frameworks developed with NHS Lanarkshire and affiliation with the University of Glasgow (where applicable)

Requirements
Essential
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
- MRCS/MRCR/UK equivalent complimentary Exams
- Breast Radiology Specialist Skills (including advanced tomosynthesis, contrast-enhanced mammography, and biopsy procedures)
- Proven ability to lead one-stop breast clinics
- Autonomy in managing complex breast pathology and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Experience demonstrating commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care
Additional Considerations (Preferred)
- Interest in quality improvement, patient safety, Medical Education, or Research & Development
- Evidence of innovation in breast services
- Commitment to University of Glasgow affiliation and honorary lecturing (if applicable)
