Consultant Cardiologist (Interventional Specialist) –Job Opening
Job Summary
We are looking to hire an enthusiastic Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in Interventional Cardiology to join our rapidly expanding cardiology service at Great Western Hospital.

Main Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will deliver a comprehensive interventional cardiology service, including:
- Elective and emergency Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)
- Managing a high-volume diagnostic and interventional service (~1500 angiograms, 400 PCI cases annually)
- Inpatient and outpatient general cardiology care (ward rounds, clinics)
- Participation in consultant on-call and Cardiologist of the Week (COW) rotas
- Contribution to regional primary PCI rotor at Bristol Heart Institute (BRI)
- Engagement in multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions on complex cases
- Support and development of advanced interventional techniques, including:
- Physiology-guided (FFR, IVUS, OCT)
- Coronary physiology techniques
- Complex PCI (e.g., bifurcation cases, CTO)
- Teaching, training, audit, and research participation

Key service features:
- On-site daytime primary PCI
- Shared out-of-hours PPCI via Bristol Heart Institute (BRI)

- Intravascular imaging (IVUS, OCT)

- Complex PCI, including bifurcation, CTOs
- Robust MDT structure with regional surgical access
- Dedicated support from a highly skilled cath lab team & specialist nurses
Job Requirements
Management & Leadership Responsibilities
All staff report managerially through leadership structures aligned with consulting roles in the Division. As a key accountable member of the Division, you will:
- Support Clinical Lead in policy and strategy development
- Lead and develop services under Clinical Lead & Associate Medical Director‘s direction
- Ensure effective communication & staff engagement to improve patient outcomes
- Contribute to the Division’s objectives

Person Specification
Required Qualifications
- Fully GMC-registered
- Completed CCT (or equivalent for non-UK applicants; or 6 months post-CCT at application)
- Awarded placement on GMC Specialist Register (interventional cardiology)
- Exempt: MRCP(UK) or equivalent registration
Essential Experience
- Meet requisite training criteria (aligned with UK CCT)
- Expertise across full spectrum of cardiology care
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and act as an independent, accountable clinician
- Emergency cardiology experience:
- **TV temporary pacing+
- Pericardiocentesis** (mentorship negotiable for skill maintenance)
- Sub-specialty encouragement supported
Additional Notes
- Eligible Rehabilitation of Offenders disclosures due to high-risk involvement

- Essential UK professional registration (or eligibility via physical relocation process)
