Consultant Cardiologist (Inherited Cardiac Conditions) – Part-time (5 PAs)

About the Role

Applications are invited for a Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) at the Cardiology Department, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a dynamic, flexible professional who will provide expert clinical care, leadership, and service development in inherited cardiac conditions. The role is part-time (5 PAs) and based primarily at the John Radcliffe Hospital, with flexibility to work across Trust locations and regional centres as required.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Manage outpatient clinics specialising in inherited cardiac conditions.
  • Review and support the care of inpatients with relevant clinical needs.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) working, including team meetings and collaborative decision-making.
  • Provide clinical leadership in developing and enhancing the inherited cardiac conditions service.
  • Work alongside clinical geneticists, advanced nurse specialists, and other consultants to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Support innovation in cardiology, particularly within the field of cardiac genetics, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and channelopathies.

About the Department

  • The Cardiology Department at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of approximately 2.5 million across the Oxford region and neighbouring areas.
  • The Trust delivers integrated cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery services, collaborating closely with the University Department of Cardiovascular Medicine.
  • Clinical and academic focus areas include myocardial hypertrophy, vascular biology, and cardiac imaging (CT/MRI).
  • The department provides local and tertiary-level care, including interventional cardiology, with strong referral links to neighbouring district hospitals.

Requirements

  • Qualified Consultant Cardiologist with postgraduate training in inherited cardiac conditions.
  • Proven expertise in cardiac genetics, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and channelopathies.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to high standards of patient care, service development, and innovation.
  • Willingness to flexible rotas, including potential evening/weekend shifts, to support extended hours of service delivery.
