Job Overview

Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with special interest in Medical Education

We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to assist in providing comprehensive Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services to complement the expertise of other Community Consultants and their teams. There will be opportunities to develop services for children with complex mental health conditions including eating disorders, psychosis, neurodevelopmental disorders, and self-harm. There is flexibility to develop specific areas of interest and the aim is to develop a service that provides seven days a week care to children, young people, and their families.

This is an opportunity to work within a dynamic and innovative service committed to transforming and delivering services that are evidence-based and fit for the population of Conwy and Denbighshire.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to develop a significant and meaningful leadership role in Medical Education. Working closely with the North Wales Medical School, the post holder will be supported to deepen their interest in Medical Education, which may include undertaking a Post Graduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, or Masters in Medical Education.

Main duties of the job

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assessment, formulation, and management of significant developmental, behavioural, and mental health disorders occurring in children and adolescents aged 0-18 years
  • Offer supervision to colleagues in the teams
  • Offer consultation and training to a range of professionals involved in CAMHS work on a mutually arranged basis
  • Continue to develop further partnership working with Social Services, Homes for looked after Children, and Education, to provide professional advice, support, and assessments as necessary
  • Join the existing out-of-hours 1 in 12 on-call rota to provide psychiatric cover, consultation, and advice to the North Wales Adolescent Service (NWAS) Tier 4 CAMHS Unit, the Paediatric Wards, and Adult Mental Health colleagues at the three main hospital sites in North Wales. The on-call rota will include some direct emergency and crisis work at weekends and bank holidays (for example, reviewing young people detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act). The post holder would also be expected to contribute to providing psychiatric cover for the community during working hours, together with other Consultant colleagues

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
