Consultant Clinical Immunologist
Consultant – Adult Allergy and Clinical Immunology
About the Role
We are seeking a Consultant to join the team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHTR).
This is a permanent, full-time post (with part-time options considered) within the Adult Allergy and Clinical Immunology services, based at Royal Preston Hospital. Under exceptional circumstances, sessions may be required at Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital.
Key Requirements
- Must be on (or eligible for within six months) the specialist register (Immunology) of the GMC.
- Must have completed the JRCPTB curriculum in Immunology or demonstrate equivalence in knowledge, training, and experience.
- Must hold (or show evident equivalent experience to) MRCP (UK).
The role serves a regional population of approximately 1.6 million people, providing specialist services in Adult Allergy and Immunology.
Clinical Duties
- Provide a clinical service for the investigation and management of patients with:
- Primary and secondary immune deficiency
- Allergic disorders
- Other conditions where immune dysfunction is suspected
- Deliver patient care via outpatient clinics, written reports, and telephone correspondence.
- Advise on inpatient cases as requested by other consultants.
- Supervise specialist nurses, including:
- Immunoglobulin therapy
- Subcutaneous immunotherapy
- Monoclonal antibody therapy
- Oral/drug provocation tests
- Jointly oversee home treatment programs for immunoglobulin and C1 inhibitor therapies.
- Supervise procedures such as:
- Allergen immunotherapy
- Oral and drug provocation tests
- Immunoglobulin replacement therapy
- Ensure continuity of care, including leave and off-duty cover coordination.
- Maintain high professional standards in clinical care, patient safety, and ongoing medical education (per GMC requirements).
