Consultant Clinical Oncology
Consultant in Clinical Oncology
with Interest in Thoracic and Upper Gastrointestinal Malignancies
About the Role
The post holder will specialise in thoracic and upper gastrointestinal malignancies, with a preference for candidates demonstrating an interest in teaching and staff training. Opportunities for collaboration on research or educational projects exist through established links with Bangor and Wrexham Universities.
The successful applicant will play a key role in the Consultant-led integrated specialist Oncology Service across North Wales, contributing flexibly as the service evolves with new and replacement consultant appointments.
The Job Plan will incorporate roles related to thoracic malignancies and upper gastrointestinal malignancies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Key Tasks
- Provide specialist oncological services to North Wales’ population, with particular focus on common cancers and subspecialties.
- Actively engage in relevant multidisciplinary teams.
- Collaborate closely with consultant colleagues to ensure seamless cancer care.
- Coordinate with intersecting disciplines (e.g., gastroenterology, thoracic surgery) to facilitate patient transitions.
- Support inpatient cover for oncology patients alongside colleagues in Oncology, Haematology, and Palliative Care.
- Develop a specialist research interest, including participation in national/international clinical studies.
- Contribute to collaborative improvement initiatives, upholding patient safety and evidence-based medicine standards.
- Participate in audit processes and ensure active involvement in Continuing Medical Education (CME).

Qualification & Selection Criteria
Essential
- GMC Specialist Registration (or within 6 months of completing CCT by interview date)
- MB ChB qualification (or equivalent)
- MRCP fixation (or equivalent)
Desirable
- A higher degree
- A research degree
Experience (Essential)
- Appropriate experience in training-grade posts (SpR/SR-level) accepted by the Royal College of Physicians/GMC.

- Experience in teaching or clinical audit roles.
- Demonstrated leadership in clinical settings.
- Experience in clinical governance.
