University Hospitals Tees is a hospital group formed by North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Radiotherapy Physics is situated at the James Cook University Hospital in South Tees.

Radiotherapy Physics is comprised of Treatment Planning, Machines and Computer Science. We are looking to recruit an outstanding individual to lead the Treatment Planning section. The successful candidate will be an experienced scientist working at consultant level with familiarity across all areas of radiotherapy physics and expertise in treatment planning, with competence to act as a Medical Physics Expert. The individual will be someone who can create a vision for the future of the treatment planning section and take the action needed to achieve those goals.

This is an exciting time for the radiotherapy service with a major capital equipment replacement program in progress. Alongside this the department has a strong track record of innovation and service development in areas such as SABR, advanced IGRT and innovative machine QA techniques. Current priorities include introducing online adaptive radiotherapy and increased usage of AI tools.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
